Work History

1990 to present: 4D Solutions (Portland, Oregon), consultant, trainer, applications developer, IT and PR services, with over two decades of service to the following clients (not in chronological order): Coding with Kids ONLC Holden Web M-P System Services Providence Health & Services Associated Oregon Industries Meyer Memorial Trust Coffee Shops Network Collaborative Technologies, Free Geek Design Science Toys, Flextegrity LLC Foundation for Accountability Ecotrust Multnomah County: Aging Services Division Institute for Science, Engineering and Public Policy Mondotronics Sisters of the Road Transportation Reaching People Northwest Regional China Council Urban League of Portland Oregon Food Bank Vision Northwest Oregon Curriculum Network United Methodists

Services included a combination of developing mostly “thick client” applications (not Web) and providing training in specific aspects of IT, continuing my training experience working for Center for Urban Education (adults) and Saturday Academy (minors).  As a curriculum designer I study what works at the different age levels (andragogy / pedagogy).

2017 to present: Training, consulting, marketing for a variety of outfits.

2011 to 2016O’Reilly School of Technology, Senior Python Instructor.  Mentor students on-line using round trip assignment evaluation software (inhouse solution) through a four part Python programming curriculum covering beginner to advanced topics.  A remote desktop running Eclipse IDE with PyDev was provided except beginners had a less intimidating in-browser solution (CodeRunner) which prefigured their later full-featured experience.

2006 to present: Saturday Academy (Portland, Oregon): Served as a classroom teacher, co-teacher and curriculum writer.  Originated Digital Mathematics curriculum on WikiEducator.

1985 to 1990: Center for Urban Education (CUE): Provided custom programming, training, and ongoing technical assistance to a wide variety of NGOs and government agencies, including for the Royal Government of Bhutan and US Forest Service.

1983 to 1984: McGraw-Hill, New York City: Evaluated computer literacy teaching materials, including software, geared for pre-college students, with emphasis on then contemporary programming languages.

1983: Americans for Civic Participation, Washington DC: Assisted with a nation-wide voter registration campaign from a back office location, with a focus on low income and historically disenfranchised citizens.

1981 to 1983 St. Dominic Academy, Jersey City, NJ: Served as full time faculty member, teaching high school mathematics, geometry through calculus.
